2014 RONE Award Nominee

How far would you go to avenge your family and save the one you love?

In nineteenth-century EnglandAlaina Claiborne had a loving family, a cherished friend, and devoted servants. She spent her days riding across the grassy hills of the English countryside, joyful and at peace.

Then tragedy strikes and her world is forever changed. Searching for those responsible is her only focus . . . until she meets Tristan.

Tristan Sheffield, a man of many talents, searches out those who don’t want to be found. His past is filled with secrets and deeds he would rather leave deeply buried. However, when his life unexpectedly entwines with Alaina's, he soon discovers they share more than a mutual desire to catch a murderer.

On their hunt for a man driven by greed, Tristan and Alaina find that love is the greatest weapon against evil, and they'll stop at nothing to survive.

Image of MK McClintockBorn near the beautiful coast of southern California and raised in the awe-inspiring Rocky Mountains, author MK McClintock studied business at BYU-Idaho until she decided culinary school was a lot more fun. Armed with a gypsy spirit and adventurous nature, MK traveled from coast to coast living in remote mountains towns and a small New England village, traversed rocky coasts, experienced fine Southern hospitality, and explored the Highlands of Scotland before returning home to Montana.
She helps run her family businesses by day, and by night, MK spins tales of romance and adventure inspired by the heather-covered hills of Scotland, and the majestic mountains of home. With her heart deeply rooted in the past, and her mind always on adventure, she lives and writes wherever her heart and imagination lead her.

From the Author
Dearest Reader,

This book was, to say the least, a journey. What began as a story I started more than ten years prior, ended with a love for characters to whom I wasn't willing to say goodbye. Alaina is as I believe heroines should be--strong, resilient, and ladylike. Of course she has a few flaws, but who doesn't. Tristan is a gentleman hero, but he's not concerned about doing what must be done, and I love him for that. I hope you enjoy Alaina and Tristan's journey of romance and mystery.

Happy Reading,
-MK

My Review of both books:
Sometimes I think it was God's little joke to plunk me down in the middle of, well, today, when I love the past so much. Maybe it was because I would have been the lady's maid rather than the Lady herself, and ended up working in a bawdy tavern.
It's been a while since I've been so enthralled with a series, so much so, that I am on pins and needles waiting for the next book. ALAINA CLAIBORNE AND BLACKWOOD CROSSING are part mystery and part romance, something not every author can intertwine successfully. MK McClintock has spun an enchanting tale deeply entrenched in the lands of Scotland and England that will leave you riveted to your chair until you turn the last page.
MK's books feature strong men and stronger women. They follow their men across the oceans and continents, through and into danger, never backing down. They are Ladies of the Manor and just at home riding the finest thoroughbreds money can buy. They can waltz at a cotillion and in minutes, flee on horseback at breakneck speeds. The women stand up for their beliefs and love their men deeply.
The books are well written and transport you back in time with descriptive passages that leave you smack in the middle of the fray. You hear the bullets whizzing by, smell the dank dungeon, and the lavender bath waters. The plot has many twists and turns and leaves you guessing until the last moment. In my opinion, the books have everything it takes to be a winner. I would be remiss if I didn't also mention the beautiful covers on the books which help to give the reader a sense of place.
As well as having a great story line, the book was flawlessly written. I normally pick up on any grammatical error that crosses the page and I only found one in the two books that I've read. I have read many books, both good and bad, and MK McClintock can hold her own against the best of the best. I would give the books a rating higher than five stars were it available. It is not often that I find an author that I want to read every book of theirs that I can get my greedy little hands on. MK McClintock is one of those authors.
For avid readers of historical romance, you will not be disappointed. The book has all the elements you love - suspense, mystery, murder, intrigue, adventure, high-speed chase, and romance all wrapped up in the everyday lives of 19th century aristocracy in England and Scotland.
Both books include characters from each story, but they also stand alone as single books with complete story-lines and conclusions.

If you had to make a choice, would it be loyalty or love?
Torn between loyalty to her family and refusal to marry a laird she despises, Rhona Davidson accepts a dangerous proposal from a man she knows only as Blackwood.
Leaving behind a life of leisure, Charles Blackwood bravely serves his country with honor and the skill of a trained British agent. When his newest case returns him to the wild Highlands of Scotland, he is faced with a choice between killing a man and saving the only woman he has ever loved.
Charles and Rhona join their lives, only to discover that their choices will result in bloodshed, unless they can uncover a truth long buried, deep in the Highland soil.
